A Portable Bed is useful for a great many different occasions and many hotels and inns also use them for extra beds for guests. These are easy to set up and they are super for families to use when traveling on the road.
Hey, it never hurts to have a spare bed at the ready in your home either. You just don’t know who might come to visit and end up staying overnight. You can use a portable bed to accommodate unexpected guests and you can also use it yourself if you choose to camp out in another room and pack it away in the morning.

Size – You must give some thought to who will use this bed most of the time. Are you buying it for young children or for teens? Weight – Weight capacity is a very serious consideration. This is because most portable beds have a weight range of around 220 pounds. However, many inexpensive portable beds have stronger frames that can sleep just about anybody. The trick here, is to know your options.

Frame – Frames are not the most important consideration, but as they go hand in hand with strength and weight capacity, they aren’t to be dismissed. There are many types of frames. Some are the more traditional spring type frame. These are good, but of course they do become noisy over time. One of the more popular frames is the wood slat frame. These are comfortable, quiet, strong and cheap. I ask you then – what’s not to like?
Portability – You may not need to move your bed once you set it up, but if you do – you need to include this when planning your purchase. You may want a bed that is easily stored, like a fold up (or roll-away) bed, or you might want something that serves as a couch during the day. Many portable beds have wheels for easy maneuverability. If the bed of your choice is on the heavier side, then check to see that it has wheels or you’ll find yourself lying in it recovering from back strain.
Mattress – Portable beds may be sold with a mattress, or without. If you’ve already got a good mattress then why buy another? Maybe a frame is all that you need. Because mattresses come in different sizes and comfort levels, you need a good understanding of what you need – so you will need to read customer reviews voraciously to gain this understanding. Fortunately, selecting a mattress for a portable bed is somewhat easier than a stationary bed. As opposed to weighing 300 pounds, portable mattresses tend to be designed to be light and easily managed. Therefore, what you need to seek is comfort and quality more than mattress type – and the customer reviews should help to hone you right in on your dream mattress.
Warranty – You didn’t forget the warranty, did you? They aren’t always offered, and if not, consider this a warning. If the warranty is for a year, consider THAT a warning too! Manufacturers of a quality bed aren’t afraid to warranty it for a decent period of use. Be guided by this – and by customer comments. Where these two elements come together, you can buy your new bed with confidence.
