Installing the Rain Bird SST600I is a snap.  You won’t even need a screwdriver.  Just strip the wires and push them into the color-coded terminals—and you are done.  Connecting zone wires, master valves, pump start relays, or even a rain sensor easily installs by use of these easy to use “push” terminals.

Unfortunately, a few customers apparently did not anticipate a particular limitation.  We want to tell you about this now.  Customers explain the issue as an inability to set the start times when watering multiple times a day.

To explain this simply, consider this:  When you select a watering cycle of "Twice a day", "Three times a day,” etc...  The Rain Bird SST600I automatically sets the subsequent start times on predefined intervals.

As an example, if you set the watering cycle start time for 5am and select “twice a day” the next watering to occur will happen at 11am (+6 hrs.).  According to the manual these default values cannot be changed.

Moreover, this, subsequent watering time must be on the same day, so that you cannot (for example) set up for 9pm and 3am because three am is the next day.  You can read the customer reviews for a better idea of the limitations here, but clearly, this is not a problem for most customers, who rated the Rain Bird SST600I very highly.

After reading most of the negative reviews, our impression was simply that these users bought a timer that was just not right for their needs.  A timer that simplifies programming will likely sacrifice some of the flexibility that come along with complexity.  Nevertheless, if there is confusion here – we want you to be aware of it.

The Rain Bird SST600I is inexpensive, easy to use, easy to install, and just right for simple watering needs.  You are not going to put your five-acre grounds on this timer – but it is perfect for a greenhouse, small garden, inside garden etc.
