Product Overview

This Ball Enamel Water Bath Canner kit is really designed for the beginner. It includes all the tools and equipment you need to can your very own fruits and vegetables. Ball has included a basic utensil set in this kit.

The chrome rack sits on the bottom of the canner and allows you to raise your jars up and down. Some customers reported that this rack rusts fairly quickly but it is inexpensive to buy a replacement. Just be sure to try to buy a stainless steel rack which will not rust.

The nice feature of this set is that the canner has a flat bottom and will work on ceramic stove tops. Keep this in mind as not all canners have a flat bottom and can cause issues.  If you read through the customer comments on Amazon for this canner you will notice that some customers are saying that the bottom is not totally flat. It does have a slight raised rim but has been used on ceramic stoves with no major issues. It works wonderfully on gas stove tops.

You only need to follow three basic steps to make delicious jam with this process.

1. Prepare all of your ingredients by cleaning and crushing your fresh fruit

And here is the process one lady uses to make her jam with this machine:

Making jam WITH Jam and Jelly Maker

Mash up fruit. Put in maker. Sprinkle pectin on top.
Turn on machine. Wait for four-minute beep. Add sugar.
Go watch Breaking Bad on DVR for 17 minutes.
Jam maker beeps, jam is done! Skim small amount of foam.
Process jam in jars.
Pan, lid and stirrer from jam maker clean up in about 5 minutes.

This really does sound like a wonderful machine that simplifies the jam making process. One thing to note is that you will need to use their recipe and method for your jam. One customer noted that her recipes didn’t work that well, until she adjusted them.
