The new designs are more convenient too.  Campers had to fill the older models of this lantern with fuel, but these days, Coleman has moved to using small propane cylinders and they designed a two-mantle lantern to screw on top of a one of these cylinders.  Once in place, the lantern has all the fuel that it needs to work.

So, if the propane lantern is so highly recommended, why recommend another camping light?  Well, the propane lighting is great for outdoors, but it is not the proper tool to light the inside of your tent, camping toilet, or other internal areas.

This Coleman light is ideal for tent camping.  It is not hot or harsh and in a small tent, offers up all the light that you should need.  In a larger tent, you may need two of these if you plan to read at night, but one is enough for most general purposes.

The Honeywell 50250S HEPA Round Air Purifier scores 4.2 out of 5 stars, a very respectable rating.  There were 933 total reviews at the time of this writing, and 750 of these were above three stars.

The praise was not universal, however as two basic complaints did emerge that went beyond simple quality control issues.

The first was the noise, but when you buy an air cleaning system of this size and power, it probably is too much to hope that it will be silent, as well.  There are silent cleaning systems – VERY quiet, but these run on an entirely different technology that seems almost like magic, and these are prone to emit unpleasant odors of their own.  Such air-cleaning units also tend to be very expensive.

The second complaint was vibration.  The unit seemed to be a bit off-balance, so that the body would vibrate at low settings.  If this unit is sitting right at your feet, this is going to be a problem.  Put it in a BIG room, and choose a smaller unit for cozier settings.

At $144 dollars, the powerful Honeywell 50250S HEPA Round Air Purifier is very cost-effective, for its intended use.  If the unit becomes too noisy, here is a tip: change your filter.  Unusually high noise is often a symptom of a clogged air filter.  It will quiet down again as soon as unrestricted airflow is restored.

You can see that of 474 customer reviews, 355 are at four stars or above, but this still leaves 119 complaints, and that is a lot – so let’s talk about them for a moment.

Overall, there are only two consistently recurring complaint that we could find.

I should refrain from being too smug, though.  The write-up on site at amazon does rather lead one to believe that the LeapFrog Scribble 'N Write is an interactive toy that will work with the child mano-a mano to teach your child the alphabet.  I suppose it might have been written better to avoid this impression, but you now have this review to give you the inside story.

The unit does is a letter/number tracing mode, which is instructional to say the least, but it does have its limitations.  Nevertheless, I don’t think that the reviewers really understood the intent of this toy.  That’s ok.  It is understandable that the manufacturers of this toy understood children better than these reviewers did.

Viewed from kid’s point of view, this toy is more fun than a “teaching” writer would be.  A toy for kids of this age MUST offer opportunities to exercise a growing child’s imagination.  That is why we start kids out with a colouring book, instead of just handing them “War and Peace”.  It seems clear to me that (in this regard), a toy that frees the child is more enjoyable than one that requires a child to negotiate a learning curve.

When the child is ready, the parents can teach the children the letters of the alphabet one at a time, and show the child how to use the tracing mode to practice each letter that they have learned.  On short, parents still have to put in quality time with their children.  Go figure!

The Nintendo 3DS: Pros And Cons

Ok folks.  There is no magic here.  The main benefit of the 3DS is that you can play games - and even take pictures - in 3D and without wearing glasses!  It takes the prize for initiative, if not for originality, and it definitely brings something new to game playing – and even to picture taking.

3D is the hottest technology craze at present, and unlike say, High Definition, the benefits go well above just offering prettier pictures.  It offers a truly unique and thrilling experience in video for both television and portable games but of course, the biggest drawback has always been the need for special glasses.

To be able to free yourself from playing your 3DS games without having to wear those dumb glasses is already an experience all its own.  To keep things sharp, clean, and beautiful, the screen resolution for this version of the 3DS improved considerably.

This new 3D display is able to offer true 3D effect without the glasses by displaying a different column of pixels for each eye.  The effect is not perfect.  You have to be in the precise alignment with the screen to get it the 3D effect to operate.  Specifically, this means that you have to hold the 3DS about a foot from your face, and perfectly flat relative to your line of vision.  If you don’t, the 3D image will split in two.  The slider does give you some flexibility but you can’t get around this visual limitation.

According to the reviews on site at amazon, most people who bought the Nintendo 3DS said that they quickly adjusted to this limitation to hold the 3DS to perfect affect.

Well, as you might imagine, complaints are hard to come by.  Of 27 reviews, only two complaints are registered at 3 stars or less – and in one case the customer admitted that his product was likely must defective, while the other customer got the wrong device – but was happy with it anyway!

If you already have a DS, that sucks, since this feature alone is worth the upgrade and you’ll just have to hope you have a little brother to hand your current console off to, if you don’t want to miss out on a true phenomenon.

This console works as all previous models, so you won’t find yourself re-learning the wheel.  You will find that the directional pad has migrated downward to make room for the new circle pad, but that is the biggest difference.  You can still use your new 3DS to play older DS games, so don’t worry about that, though this new version might spoil you so badly that you won’t want to play those games in the end.

Conclusion

The new Nintendo 3DS is not cheap, nor should you expect it to be, but it’s not likely to break the bank if you really want it.  If you are an avid gamer, then of course you must have it, but if you are more casual, maybe you don’t care about 3D – at least – until you get a go at your friends console.
