100 Year Anniversary Note

On the back of the jars they say 1913 – 1915 as these were the original years that this particular design was being used. After 1915 the design was changed. 2013 marks 100 years since the beginning of this design so the company is making an effort to commemorate it. At the same time it is important to understand that this design was not in production for the entire 100 years.

South Shore Savannah Collection Door Chests – Reviewed

Despite its modest price, the South Shore Savannah Collection Door Chest is really quite beautiful.

Of course, you will find MANY different types of chests and door chests on line.  The question then, is whether you feel you can trust the product or not.  Few experiences beat going in the shop and kicking the tires, but that really isn’t going to get you too far here, unless you are a real furniture geek.  Most of us need reviews and a solid reputation to guide us.  There is a solution for that.  We call it – amazon.

This superb bedroom wardrobe is made of composite wood paneling certified by Forest Stewardship Council (FSC).  The wardrobe offers 2 open, adjustable shelves – and four more, secured behind the door.  Two additional drawers are supplied for storing of extra items.

The (almost delicious) creamy finish will look beautiful  in a baby or a child's room and you can decorate such a compatible finish as this one with decals or whatever, to give it that extra special touch for the more artistic parents out there.

Unfortunately, assembly is required – always a turn-off, but in this case, construction is very simple even if you can’t follow the instructions, because all parts are well marked.  Assembly is well thought out, too.  For example, a rubber block just inside the door keeps it from slamming, waking baby at night, and causing damage to the unit.  The backside of the unit is a thick and sturdy, but light and easily managed, like cardboard.

That’s not to say that all customers were happy though.  Point of fact – they never are.  Some customers had problems getting this piece of furniture assembled despite the clear markings, and they claimed it was unsteady once it had been assembled.

Other customers have claimed that it was super easy to assemble and that it was very sturdy after assembly, so the complaints here might just be a case of operator error.  While positive reviews do well outnumber the negative for this product on site, the impression is that it is a good middle line piece of furniture – along the lines of what you expect for something inexpensive that you need to assemble yourself.

The South Shore Savannah Collection Door Chest is picture-perfect for a baby's room - especially for your little girl.  Be advised though that this is not a full sized chest.  It stands only some five feet in height.  However, that height is just fine for a child, and its uncomplicated finish means parents can decorate it easily, to match the decor of your child’s room.

The last two wine racks we looked at are best suited for a wine cellar or a wine storage area.  They can be stained to fit the color of your kitchen, but these are basic shelves.  If you like the rustic look in your home, however, these will make great additions to your living space.

This is a basic wine cellar rack http://amzn.to/1dbEduO which can be stacked or set side by side.  It holds 40 bottles of wine and measures 10.4" D x 33" W x 18.75" H.  It comes in natural, solid wood so you can finish it with stain, clear coat or paint it to suit your taste if you don't like the looks of natural wood.  If it's going into a wine cellar or pantry the natural wood is fine for your needs.

Customers have been very pleased with this unit for building up their wine cellar with plenty of storage area.  The biggest complaint about this product is that it only holds a standard bottle of wine.  Larger bottles can be used, but you can't store as many and they do not fit well into the slots allotted.

Assembly has been relatively easy for most people and the shelf comes with level adjusting feet which is a big plus for many people.  This helps make the shelf sturdy, especially on uneven flooring like some older basements have.

120 Bottle Rustic Wood Wine Rack

The last wine rack we looked at is the 120 Bottle Rustic Wood Wine Rack http://amzn.to/182cDwX.  This rack is best suited for a cellar or basement type environment as it is not fancy at all.  It's simply a basic shelf that allows you to double-stack bottles, hence getting 120 bottles on it.  It is much taller than the previous shelf we discussed and you may want to anchor it to the wall in some way so it isn't top heavy.  The product description claims it can be broken down into two shorter shelves with each unit holding 60 bottles.

For the price this is a great shelf to start your own wine cellar out with.  It's affordable enough that as your build your wine collection you can order more units and really create a nice cellar.

Most customers are completely happy with this product.  The biggest complaint we found is that the earthquake strap isn't all that great so you will want to find a better solution for securing it to the wall.  Overall, this is a great buy, easy to assemble and will store your wine bottles at the right angle.
