Comparison Article of Arbors

Comparison Article of Arbors

Even buying something as simple as a garden arbor can become complex. This is so true just because of the sheer volume of arbors and arches that are available. Go take a look at the Arbor section over at Amazon[Arbor Search Link]
We have already reviewed some garden arbors and we will attempt to compare them within this article. This should help you decide just which type of arbor would be best suited for your garden.
There are many types of arbors and arches available for your garden. You have those that are best for using over walkways and paths and then you have those that are perfect for sitting under.

Simple Arbors and Arches

Let’s get started with the plainer or more basic arbors. Again there will be those that have a lower price and those with a much higher price. One of the best selling arches is the Gardman R351Gothic Arch [Product Link]. This arch is priced at just under $50 and customers say that you get what you pay for.
This is a basic arch with a touch of Gothic style and is made from steel. To assemble it must be connected together and there are approximately 14 connectors to use. It takes a little while to assemble and some customers had trouble with this part. Most agreed that having two people would make this task much easier.
Next in the line up for an arch type arbor is the Greenstone Arch Arbor[Product Link]. This is priced at just under $150 and is meant to be more of a permanent structure in your garden. It is recommended to cement this arbor into position. In comparison to the Gardman Gothic Arch this one seems to be easier to assemble. One lady was 73 years old and said she had no problems at all with it.

Pergola Type Arbors

This type of arbor is the most expensive as it comes with benches attached to it. As well most of these arbors have a trellis where you can encourage your flowers and vines to scramble up and over it.
One popular Pergola Arbor is the Toscana Double Bench Arbor with Pergola Style Top[Product LinkIt comes in a wonderful bronze finish which is extremely eye pleasing. It is also much heavier weighing in at 110 pounds. No problem for a couple of strong men to move into place for you though!
The assembly time for this pergola style arbor is about 2 hours for two people, so that isn’t too bad at all. This pergola would be perfect for placing around your pool or patio area or even a safe distance away from a fire pit.
The only drawback to this Toscana Pergola Arbor was that some people found it rusted quickly. This might not be an issue for you if you like the look of a little rust, some customers liked this as it added a touch of charm to the pergola.
This is more expensive at around $355 it normally retails for almost $500 so this is a good price. We found this listed at Amazon on sale so visit there today if this Pergola Arbor interests you. [Product Link]
By now you have a good overview of the various types or garden arbors and arches that are available. Remember to think about where you want to place your arbor and what your main use will be. Is it for growing flowers on, lining a pathway or using as a focal point to sit under during the summer?

While arches and trellises are great for flowers don’t forget that they make the perfect place to grow tomatoes and cucumbers on as well.
Many people like to use it to place at the entrance of their seating or patio area so it forms a gateway. On the other side of the arch you can place your patio chairs and cushions along with your table and outdoor candles.
Garden arches and arbors come in a variety of materials and steel and bamboo are two popular materials that are often used. The Gardman R351 55-Inch by 101-Inch by 19-Inch Gothic Arch is made from steel and will last a long time in your garden, even if you leave it out over winter.
Gardman is a company that is located in the U.K. and has a solid reputation. As well as garden arches and arbors they also manufacture a wide range of products for your garden. You can see what the Gardman Gothic Arch looks like by visiting the sales page at Amazon [Product Link]. As well you can read additional customer comments and reviews. We have printed a few of these below for you as well.

Assembling Your Arch

The tubular rods will have to be connected to each other and this is done with small black connectors. There are 14 of them in total. Inside your kit there will be one extra rod. This rod will need to have 4 holes drilled into it before being placed into the ground. This is the framework that your arch will sit on.
It is very important to connect the arched rods together carefully and they must go in the same direction. While these arched rods look the same they are not so a close inspection is important.
A few customers had some issues with the construction part of this arch and also stated that having two people would make the process easier.

Customer Feedback

  • It was time consuming to figure out how to get the arch put together and then install it in the garden. I did it myself but would have found it much easier if I had an extra helping hand to set this thing up.
  • It looks very nice, we are using it as part of the alter in our wedding, but after our wedding it will fit in perfectly as an entrance to our garden.
  • This trellis is elegant and sturdy. I can see no problem allowing even heavy wisteria to climb it. It is classy looking even before the vines have taken hold of it.

Overview

This Gardman Arch has a few flaws when it comes to assembly. While some customers struggled in putting it together others did not. But it does seem easier to do with an extra pair of hands.

Buying your Garden Arbor Discussion

Buying your Garden Arbor

Summer is here and it is time to spruce up your garden. While flowers and plants are wonderful what about using some type of garden structure this year? This can be done by using garden arbors and arches.
There are certainly many different types of arbors available today. You can purchase a simple white arch arbor or go for a pergola type arbor that has benches attached to it. So how do you know which is best for you?
Well to start with take a good look at your garden and see how much space you have available. Look at where you want to place the arbor and then take some measurements, this will help you select the right size and type of arbor that will fit into your garden.
Of course if you are going to place your new arbor in the center of your garden then size is not too much of an issue. You can assemble the arbor where you are going to place it so you have minimal moving to do.
You also want to decide if you want to have benches attached to the arbor or if you will place seats yourself. You can see a great example of a pergola arbor by reading this review: DC America Pergola Arbor [Product Link]
Arches are wonderful for placing across your walkways and paths and then growing flowers and vines up them. Climbing roses work really well and are fast growing to easily cover a trellis type arbor. Vines are another great choice along with Morning Glory, though these do only bloom in the morning, but look gorgeous.
The biggest problem that people run into with garden arches and arbors is the assembly. This is where reading the customer comments and reviews comes in really handy. You can see exactly what issues people had and if they were resolved or not.
Some of the larger arbors require being cemented into place while others are tall and will require a ladder to finish off the assembly. You will most likely have all the extra tools available but it is helpful to know what to expect.
Most of the arbors come with detailed instructions but no spare parts. It is useful to empty all the small pieces into a box so you don’t lose them. Many manufacturers do have a support line that is open on the weekends and this is something that you should make use of if and when necessary.
