Children’s Learning Tablets – Two Reviews
LeapFrog LeapPad Ultra Children’s Learning Tablet.
Children’s Learning Tablets can be fun. Nothing makes your kid feel more grown up than to own a tablet or other device similar to those magic devices carried by their parents. Fortunately, there are many tablet devices designed especially for children available on the market. Your task, as a parent is to find one that is entertaining, and subtly educational.
By way of help, let us introduce you to two popular Children’s Learning Tablets that will keep junior out of your hair by immersing him in his own world of wonder. We have two offerings for your perusal. The first is the LeapFrog LeapPad Ultra Children’s Learning Tablet.
Leap Frog is a popular brand that has been around for twenty years, and in that time, they have manufactured some wonderful educational toys for kids of all ages. Even earlier versions of this pad seem to have received positive reviews from customers, but not so in this situation.
This one is a popular seller, so it makes sense to review it – even if we can’t recommend it. You really can’t win them all, you know.
The LeapFrog LeapPad Ultra Children’s Learning Tablet is perfectly suited for children aged 4 to 9 years of age. Safety is no issue, as the product does come with parental controls.
Leap Frog already has some 800 apps available for this platform. Some of these include:
- Art Studio Ultra App
- Photo Fun Ultra App
- Pet Pad Party App
- Pet Chat App
- MP3 Player with LeapFrog Learning Songs
- Many more …
The tablet also has lots of memory, able to store some 40,000 photos or 140 Game Apps – which is plenty for any 9-year-old. It offers rechargeable batteries built-in front and back cameras. As most toys produced by experienced manufacturers of kid specific items, the item is sturdy enough to survive the rough treatment expected by babies.
Customer Feedback:
Customers complain of slow, slow, SLOW operation. They do not like the quality of videos, the size of the video playback screen, and customers report the Wi-Fi to be so bad as to be non-functional. The customer mapping gives this product only 3.5 out of five stars.
Now, let us just say that the customer reviews on a product might not be the best sign of product quality. Usually, there is a “bigger story” behind the customer reviews. That is why we write our own reviews for you here at Sincere Product Reviews. If there is a “bigger picture” than a customer review might show, we try to help you to see it.
In this case, though, the reviews do seem to have gotten things right. Most of the issues complained about do seem to be valid. For a time, we thought that the problems might be rooted in the need for firmware upgrades – but additional analysis would not support the conclusion that all problems reported could be solved by firmware upgrade alone.
It surprises us to say so, but this version of the LeapFrog, LeapPad does seem to have earned its dismal ratings – so we will not recommend it here. As usual, the final decision is yours, and a link is provided below this review, so you can visit the product page at amazon to judge the product for yourself.
All is not lost, though. For alternative Children's Learning Tablets, try visiting this link. (http://sincereproductreviews.com/products/)
VTech InnoTab 2 Learning App Tablet
VTech is an alternative Children’s Learning Tablet to the popular LeapFrog, LeapPad, Ultra (reviewed above). In particular, their VTech InnoTab 2 Learning App Tablet is extremely popular. Both units have the same screen size, and both use a stylus and touch screen. A stylus in the hands of a young child is questionable, but not enough (standing alone) to cause us to reject the product.
Both units offer a cartridge port for 3rd party apps, a camera and more skins, ac adapters, headphones and other accessories. Both also have MP3 players built-in and plenty of memory.
Like the LeapFrog, LeapPad, we cannot recommend this product either. Let us review the customer inputs to understand why.
What Customers Say
The majority of parents say that their children enjoy the mental stimulation that both of these tablets offer. Unlike a Kindle, these children’s pads are designed specifically to interact with children, both educationally and psychologically. Interestingly though, customers for both of these products actually recommend the Kindle over either of these.
Specific complaints include:
- Uses 4 AA batteries last only 2, or 3 days.
- No internal charger to supplemental the short battery life.
- Un-attached stylus gets lost, as it is not attached to the Tablet.
- Small Screen for the cost, and expensive games.
- Enabling Wi-Fi is nearly inpossible.
- Slow operation, and breaks easily. One customer broke the screen by dropping the product on a carpet!
- Trouble running 3rd party software
- No “Back” button.
The product is rated by customers at only 3.8 stars, and our analysis shows that this rating cannot be mitigated by inept postal carriers, the occasional bad unit, customer error, firmware upgrade, force majeure or any other criteria we use to evaluate a product. Therefore, we cannot recommend this product.
.......
.......
We should point out that, just because we cannot be positive about these particular products does not mean that there is any problem with LeapFrog or VTech products in general. In fact, earlier models of these pads are met with great customer enthusiasm. That is why many of these customers bought these pads –and they seem genuinely disappointed in the many failings with these supposedly improved versions of their old favorites.
You can take their recommendations and go with a Kindle, you can check out earlier versions of these pads, or you can look for alternative children’s learning tablets altogether.
The best way to find a suitable children’s learning tablet is to make your research here [http://sincereproductreviews.com/products/] and then either visit amazon, or request a mini-review from us on the result. We can help you to determine if you have missed anything.
That does it. We hope that this review helped to steer you in the right direction. Leave a comment or an email – as we love to hear from you.
