How to Plan Your Christmas Shopping

How to Plan Your Christmas Shopping

Watch the time!  It is so easy to get well into December without having purchased or decided upon any gifts for your loved ones.  This can make a horror of the Christmas shopping experience, especially if you get caught in the "Christmas rush" where you'll have to battle with mammoth shopping crowds or out-of-stock merchandise.  This article hopes to help you to get well organized this year so that, when December arrives, you can just sit back and enjoy the ride!

1) You will Need a List so Start Listening

First, you will need to make a thorough list of folks who you plan to buy gifts for this year.  You should build this list several months in advance.  Heck, it's easy enough to add names later, if you forget someone.  You will want to build this list on your computer, so that you can bring in suggestions as these occur to your during the course of the year.
Also, now is the time to begin to listen and take note of items in passing that your loved ones might mention.  Remember, nobody is going to directly ask your for a gift, so to best meet their needs, you will have to rely on your knowledge of the persons involved.  People usually offer an abundance of subconscious clues about the kinds of gifts they would like, but you are likely to overlook them if you haven't yet shifted into planning mode.

2) You will need a Budget

OK.  Now you know whom you are buying for, so the time has come to compute how much money you have available to spend.
.......
.......

Once this is decided, you can then portion it out to the people on your list.  Do this a few months in advance of your shopping spree so that your Christmas shopping expenses do not spin out of control.

3) You will need a Shopping Plan

A nice side effect of planning your Christmas shopping months in advance is that you are likely to come across some of these items when you are out shopping for other things.  Grabbing these things then will save you much time.
Some people are more difficult to buy for, so you've got to plan to do your Christmas shopping when the critical goods are available.  Set a goal to have all of your Christmas shopping finished by a certain date.  In this way, you will be certain that you do not waste time making a bunch of small shopping trips.  Let's get it all done in just a few trips instead!

4) You will need to keep your list updated.

That Christmas shopping list you prepared back in step one, needs to stay updated.   It is the key to keeping your shopping organized and stress-free.  Anytime you buy a gift for some body, cross that person off your Christmas shopping list.  You can even add in how much money you have spent for that person.   Hey, it's just good business to track your expenses.
5) You will need to store your gifts safely
Then finally, when Christmas shopping is done, be sure that you have identified a safe, place to stow all the gifts.  Do not forget to mark them so that you won't forget who you bought what for – and better still - you should wrap them all ahead of time!  It has to be done - so what's the point of waiting.  Do not forget to keep your entire gift receipts in a safe place, in readiness for the inevitable case that someone wants to return or exchange their gift.
There you have it.  If you are one of those people fighting on Christmas eve for the last Poppo the Clown doll, these tips should help.  Know when Poppo will be available for purchase and BE THERE.  Can be Poppo be pre-ordered in time for Christmas delivery?  PLACE YOUR ORDER.
And, if you need suggestions about what to buy (and want to keep fights to a minimum), see what you can turn up from amazon.   There are many thousands of items listed there, so the best option might be to look for Christmas specials.
Best luck for avoiding the rush!
