Let’s talk cordless electric lawn mowers. In our last review, we looked at a couple of electric lawn mowers with cords. These are inexpensive (compared to gas) and lightweight, but you do need to work the lawn while trying to keep the cord out of the blades.

“Convenience” is the watchword when it comes to cordless mowers. You just pull them out onto the lawn, flick a switch, and go. These mowers start up instantly, are quiet, and produce zero emissions. This model even includes an Energy Star rated battery charger.

Storage is easy; just fold it down and tuck it away. Battery management could not be simpler. You can buy different battery strengths to match the size of your mowing job, and you can even remove the battery easily so you can quickly replace it and get on with you work – while the spent battery sits on the charger. There is no down time with the Black & Decker CM1936 of cordless electric lawn mower.

Out of over 600 customer reviews, it rates 4.2 stars. Obviously, earlier customers who actually bought this cordless electric lawn mower loved it! Only 75 customer complaints fell below three stars.

Most of the complaints seem to focus on the weaknesses inherent in any battery-operated lawn mower. That is that when the grass is higher, even a bit, the cutting performance of the mower is affected.

The only real complaint that we could find that had any legs is that the unit cuts unevenly and may not mulch properly, however improper grass preparation will certainly cause such issues with a battery operated mower – and besides – some 500 customers do not complain of any problems in this area. That’s a pretty safe bet that the problem is not in the lawn mower design.

This is a good-looking, well build mower that is capable of mulching or discharge to the side or rear bag collection. It uses a sensing technology called “intelli-cut” which supposedly adds extra torque when needed to power it through high or tough grass. Bear in mind though that even if we suppose that such technology works – the penalty will be that your batteries will run down faster than normal – MUCH faster.

The usual complaints against any cordless electric lawn mower apply to this mower as well.

Customers complain that it does not do a great job in grass that left uncut for about two weeks and has gotten a bit thick. As we mentioned above, these mowers are best suited for well-manicured lawns by people who completely enjoy keeping their yard in pristine shape.

Nevertheless, with 356 customer reviews in, a score of 4.0 suggests that this cordless electric lawn mower is able to satisfy most consumers who buy it. Unless you consider yourself unusually fussy, you might consider it wouldn’t please you too.
