Eco-Friendly Manual Push Lawn Mowers
So, the old-fashioned push lawn mower is dead, right? No, that was a trick question. Actually, these are still very much with us – and really do not seem to be going anywhere soon.
First, when it comes to being truly eco-friendly with your lawn care, you just cannot beat a manual push lawn mower. These are simply blades on wheels that you supply the power they need to work. What with all the gas and electric power mowers, you would think this idea would have little appeal, but these are exceptional products for fitness buffs, for people who are physically fit, and do not mind getting a bit of extra exercise when doing their yard work.
Besides the exercise, there are many benefits to the traditional push lawn mower. They are easy to keep up for one thing. No engine trouble shooting, or cleaning spark plugs or other tasks best left to a qualified mechanic. About the worst thing that happens to a push lawn mower is that a clump of grass might get caught in the works, in which case your most complicated job is to pull the clump free.
A push lawn mower is dead quiet, it does not belch noxious fumes, it is lightweight, easy to use and it will not disturb the neighbors when mowing your lawn on a weekend. So, still think people who buy a push lawn mower is stuck in the sixties? Think again.
For your consideration, we have picked out three promising models of push lawn mower. All these are very basic and simple to use. Heck, you just push them around. Have fun as you study these options. Even if you are not in market for a push mower – it’s still fun to read and learn. Come with me…

A push lawn mower is a very personal piece of equipment –and you really have to find one that like you – and that you like. Scotts 2000-20 20-Inch Classic Push Lawn Mower
ASIN: B00004RA3E
Item model number: 2000-20
Our last offering is the Scotts 2000-20 model push lawn mower. Right off, we notice this one has good-sized rear wheels, which should make it the easier to maneuver about your yard. It also has over 900 customer reviews, so this is a very well received model that is well-tried by the customers. Let us see what you think of it.
Product Features:
- 20-inch cut
- 10-inch dual tracking wheels
- 9 grass heights to choose from (1-3 inches)
- Quick-snap height adjusters
- 5 steel blades that have been heat-treated
What Customers Are Saying:
**The blades come aligned direct from the factory but on occasion they made get knocked out of wack by careless shippers. But Scott makes it quite easy to realign the blades. Maintenance is easy. I wipe mind down with a rag and then hit the blades and bearings with WD40 per the instructions.
**Despite the warnings that push reel mowers are for flat and manicured lawns, this thing is doing great on my rolling prairie. It's not hard to push, even uphill. Look at it as a productive aerobic exercise. I love it.
**These mowers do struggle with tall grass or weeds. If you let the lawn go, it will not cut tall grass.
**The light weight, low noise, cutting height range (1"-3"), and wide cutting path make this mower worth every penny. I highly recommend this mower.
Earlier customers just love this push lawn mower. They give it 3.8 out of five stars across 994 customer reviews. That there are nearly 1,000 customer reviews as of this writing just drops our jaw. It is hard enough to get 900 customers excited enough to write a review at all, let alone to have nearly all of them rave about the darn thing.
Do we really need to say anything else? Right – ‘nuff said.
As you can see, reel manual mowers are standard stuff. People buy them for all sorts of reasons, but the main ones are no fumes, lightweight, easy to maintain and no noise to disturb the neighbors.
These mowers are great for people who live in duplex and don't have large areas to mow or for people who live in the suburbs with small to medium-sized yards. It really depends on how long you want to push a mower, although these can be just as fast as a gas-powered push lawn mower in the hands of the experienced.
One thing you need to keep in mind about these manual push lawn mowers is they do not do well with sticks and twigs. These will get stuck in the blades. If you have many trees that drop debris, pinecones, spiky sweet gum balls, etc., then this probably is not the type of mower you want to use - unless you don’t object to pick up those things up before you mow. They also do not do well in tall grass that has been neglected for too long.
Another thing to remember is to keep the blades sharp. Just as with any mower, dull blades merely tear your grass up and do not actually cut it. If you keep these blades, sharp and lubricated, and you should have no problems with performance.
Hope you enjoyed the tour.
